Coloma, Sacramento & Folsom
Coming over the Sierra Nevada mountains from Reno is a three hour drive and nearly 5,000 foot descent into the California Central Valley. Nothing too terrible for a Saturday afternoon, despite all the trucks passing us…
Earthquake Trail, San Francisco, & The Jelly Belly Tour
Earthquake Trail, about an hour north of San Francisco, shows the force of the San Andreas fault. This fence was connected at one point, but during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, it moved nearly 16 feet up the California coast.
Calaveras Big Trees
Naturalist John Muir called the Great Sequoias that grow in the Calaveras Big Trees State Park the “the noblest of the noble race.” They are the tallest of all the conifers in the world, reaching heights of more than 300 feet, with the tallest stretching to an unbelievable 325 feet.
Yosemite National Park
There is nothing quite as beautiful as Yosemite National Park at sunrise. This particular day, smoke from the nearby fire had flooded the valley and it became difficult to see the towering mountains, but it scattered the light and gave us amazing colors on the valley floor.
Sequoia National Park
Sequoia National Park is the home of the largest tree in the world (by volume), the General Sherman Tree. It also contains one of the world’s largest groves of the world’s largest trees. Within the park’s boundaries is an area that covers five square miles with more than 2,100 giant sequoias that are larger than 10 feet in diameter. That’s an impressive amount of redwood!
Hearst Castle & Morro Bay
Set high above the shore line, upon a sloping hillside, lies the historic Hearst Castle. It was a collaboration between William Hearst, the owner of the land and Julia Morgan, the first female architect licensed in California.
Universal Studios Hollywood & Disneyland
When you think of Universal Studios, you think of movies, theaters, celebrities, the Universal theme song, and everything Hollywood. The theme park was a direct reflection of that, minus the celebrity sightings.
SeaWorld, Safari Park, Legoland, Miramar Air Show, Hotel del Coronado, Point Loma Lighthouse & Balboa Park
The southern coast of California has the most amazing weather, beaches, and scenery. We spent two weeks parked on the beach enjoying the sound of the waves every night and during the day we visited the sites.
The Hotel del Coronado, San Diego Safari Park, Balboa Park, Point Loma Lighthouse, Legoland, SeaWorld, and the Miramar Air Show.
